Providers typically give less due to their margin
How to read this: INR shown = today's mid-market rate minus each provider's typical margin & fee. Visual bars show relative value — longer bar = more rupees received. Providers run promotions and change rates in real time — always click a provider to confirm the live rate before transferring. Promos (like zero-fee first transfers) will make the actual rate better than shown here.
⚠️
Disclaimer & Important Notice
Rates shown on this page are indicative estimates only, calculated using live mid-market exchange rates adjusted by each provider's typical margin and fee. They are not guaranteed and may differ from the actual rate offered at the time of your transfer.

Exchange rates fluctuate continuously. Provider margins, fees, and promotions change without notice. NRI Finance Hub is an independent comparison tool and has no commercial affiliation with any remittance provider listed. We do not process, facilitate, or guarantee any money transfers.

Always visit the provider's official website or app to confirm the live rate and total cost before initiating any transfer. NRI Finance Hub accepts no liability for losses arising from reliance on rates displayed here.

1
6–12 Months Before Return
0 / 5 done
Calculate your RNOR window
RNOR status shields foreign income from India tax for up to 2 years after return. Know your window before you book the flight.
Start repatriating NRE FD maturity proceeds
NRE FD interest is fully tax-free while you're an NRI. Redeem maturing FDs and wire funds abroad — once you become Resident, NRE interest becomes taxable.
Stop new NRO deposits — plan NRO repatriation
NRO repatriation is capped at USD 1M/year and requires CA certificate (Form 15CA/15CB). Start the process early — bank processing takes 2–4 weeks per transfer.
Review overseas investments — sell tax-efficiently
Capital gains on overseas assets are not taxable in India during RNOR period. Review your portfolio abroad and consider selling appreciated positions before you lose RNOR status.
Arrange health insurance in India
Your overseas employer insurance ends when you leave. Get a family floater health policy (₹10–20L cover) before arrival — pre-existing conditions may have a waiting period of 1–4 years.

1–3 Months Before Return

Convert NRE account → Resident or RFC account
You must convert your NRE account within a reasonable time of becoming Resident. RFC (Resident Foreign Currency) account lets you hold foreign currency without converting to INR — useful if you earn abroad even after returning.
Convert NRO account → Resident savings
NRO account should be re-designated as a regular resident savings account. Contact your bank's NRI desk — they'll require address proof and updated KYC documents.
Update KYC with banks (new India address)
Failure to update KYC can freeze your accounts. Visit branch or use net banking portal to upload new address proof (Aadhaar/utility bill). Do this for every bank you hold accounts with.
File Form 10F if DTAA claim is pending
If you have pending TDS refunds or active DTAA claims in India, file Form 10F with your Tax Residency Certificate before leaving your host country. This can be done online on the Indian Income Tax portal.
3
After Return — Within 6 Months
0 / 3 done
Update Aadhaar with new India address
Visit an Aadhaar enrollment centre or use the UIDAI online portal with a valid address proof. Updated Aadhaar is required for bank KYC, mutual fund investments, and income tax filing.
Notify all investments of resident status change
Mutual funds, demat account, and brokers must be notified. Your Demat account operating as NRI-PIS needs to be re-designated. Failure to notify may cause tax-withholding issues at redemption.
File IT return — declare as RNOR for up to 2 years
File your Income Tax Return declaring RNOR status. Include Schedule FA to disclose foreign assets. Under RNOR, foreign income is still exempt — maximise this before your 2-year window closes.
📋 India Inflation Reality: CPI has averaged 5–7% p.a. over the last decade. Healthcare and education inflate faster (~8–10%). Kids education fees in metro schools: ₹10K–40K/month. Family health floater: ₹15K–40K/year. Build in a 20% buffer for unexpected expenses.
